This event will provide an insight into botanical and horticultural librarianship at the NBGW. The library is run by volunteers and gains much of its collections through donations. Find out about:
the role of the Library and it’s vision for the future
running a service on a small budget and using volunteers
using the Koha open source Library Management System, and
liaison with other Botanic Gardens, both nationally and internationally.
Improved understanding of botanical and horticultural information sources, user needs and how the Library meets these.
An awareness of the roles of the Library within the NBGW and its plans for development.
An appreciation of the challenges of running a library currently staffed by volunteers, and adding to it’s collections by donations.
View a live implementation of the Koha library management system in use. Hear about the challenges of using an open source LMS, and collaborative work being undertaken with other Botanic Gardens’ library services.
